We see Torrey Pines State Beach on the right, the Penasquitos river on the left. After we pass this stretch of the Pacific Coast Highway, the road ascends a mesa that is designated as a state natural reserve.
Darkness is about to dominate the scene. As a nocturne painting, I needed several washes to build up the dark values, especially on the river side.
On this day, fog started rolling in from the ocean. Day visitors were gone from the sandy beach, it seems, except for a few die-hard night surfers, maybe? We knew it was going to be a cool night.
