It's a huge urban cultural park. With more than a dozen museums, gardens, theaters, and hundreds more picturesque sights, I think I could try painting 100 views of Balboa Park instead of
100 views of San Diego.
This painting shows a main promenade in the middle of the park, just before sunset. The California Tower in the far back and museums built in Spanish colonial style hidden behind lush greens, it offers a view that could well be somewhere south of the border.
Although I've been to and painted from this spot numerous times, it looks different every time. The weather, time of the day/season, light condition, crowds, the mood (of the place and mine) -- they all contribute to create a certain atmosphere that merits a separate painting.
