San Diego 100 (#34) - Downtown, California Landscape Painting

Downtown (SD100-34)

Nothing catches our eyes quite like a yellow taxicab does.  Think New York City.  On a busy street where the myriads of colors are competing, our eyes are selectively drawn to the bright yellow of a taxi.In this painting, I did not paint a cab with juicy yellow.  Instead I diluted a yellow pigment almost to the point of being unnoticeable to quiet the cab's larger-than-life presence.

It was in 1908 when the first yellow cabs were manufactured.  According to a popular story, yellow was a favorite color of a wife of the manufacturing company's president.  Yellow cab in San Diego has been in continuous operation since the 1920s (source: Wikipedia).

With this painting, my San Diego 100 Project is 1/3 done.  Click here to view all the other 33 paintings I've created so far.
