Lavender has been my favorite for many years. In fact I like to plan a trip just to see the flowers. And I have been lucky enough to visit lavender fields in Provence in the south of France and on the island of Hokkaido of Japan. But I didn't know there was one right here, north of San Diego.
Because it is tucked away from major towns and highways, almost hidden among hills, I had to drive on a bumpy unpaved road to get to the entrance to this place. There I was rewarded with a view I didn't expect to see in southern California. Every time the wind blew, rows and rows of lavender looked like a gentle sea that changed its colors from pale purple to dusty blue to indigo. I can't wait to go back there when they are in bloom again in late spring.
