Daytime hours are long in the summer.  This was probably around 9pm, as I recall.  The intense blue sky made the building look blindingly white.  The sweltering sun was finally getting ready to give way to night, but families were not sitting down for dinner yet.  People came outside to enjoy walking in a cooler air, children were still playing outside.
