In this painting, we see a couple visiting
Izumo Taisha (Izumo Grand Shrine) in the misty rain. For the Japanese people Izumo Taisha is very special not only because it is the most ancient Shinto shrine but it is also a gathering place for Shinto gods. Since the shrine is dedicated to Okuninushi no Mikoto, the shinto deity of marriage, many visitors come here to wish for a good partner and a lasting relationship.
