A leisurely cruise down the river in Arashiyama (in Kyoto) feels more like white-water rafting at times (read related post).
But there's no need to be nervous because a couple of boatmen on board seem to know every single rapid and big rock along the way. They navigate with such ease, using long poles, that passengers can immerse themselves in the beauty of the mountains. They are also very friendly, funny folks, telling jokes the whole time to passengers. Here in this painting, my boatman is off to another ride.
