Genova, Italy V
It started raining when I was walking down on Via Balbi toward the old section of Genova (or Genoa). Wondering whether I should look for shelter to wait it out, I heard "Prego" and found an old man gesturing to usher me in. I didn't realize I was in front of the Basilica della Santissima Annunziata del Vastato and the gentleman was a gatekeeper. I thought I would be a fool not to stop there to avoid getting wet, and I was also tempted to see the inside of this Baroque-style cathedral. But I was in a hurry that day so I declined his kind invitation and walked on. After a very enjoyable afternoon in the old town, I passed by the Basilica Annunziata again. Hoping to find the gatekeeper still there to keep the door open for visitors, I was out of luck.... Batti il ferro quando è caldo (Strike when the iron is hot). A lesson learned.
This is how I started this painting. Genova, Italy V
