Many people, including myself, have probably been told to go to Lyon for fine food. It is considered to be the gastronomical capital of France. According to my friend from Lyon, the quality of food there easily surpasses the standards in other regions. Good news for visitors is that there is a wide variety of places, from expensive, reservation-required establishments to casual, family-run restaurants, like the one in this painting.
"The so-called nouvelle cuisine usually means not enough on your plate and too much on your bill."
"Without butter, without eggs, there is no reason to come to France."
-- Paul Bocuse, one of the most famous French chefs from Lyon
