Lyon, France V, French Landscape Painting

Lyon, France V

At the bottom of the hill of Fourvière is a small section that forms Vieux Lyon (the Old Lyon).  Walking on a narrow street, admiring old Renaissance-style buildings on both sides, I could imagine how important this neighborhood used to be when it was a bustling trade center.  It was obvious prosperity was enjoyed by the well-to-do.

I was walking down the hill on this alley, not knowing what was at the end of it.  A car came out of nowhere, and the sun hit one of the buildings behind it.  Orange glow that I happened upon in the quiet air of a late afternoon was enough for me to decide that I would paint this street scene.

I love your Lyon painting. I stayed in Vieux Lyon a few years ago and fell in love with the place and with the people. It was so beautiful. I got the same feeling you did. You can't help but connect with the people who lived and worked there before; maybe it's because the people who live there now still carry on with life in much the same way. I look forward to seeing more of your Lyon work.

Hi Deber, thank you for your kind comment. I'm glad that I was able to share this painting with somebody who walked on the same street! I am working on more pieces of Vieux Lyon. Hope you'll come back and check them out.
