While paintings in my San Diego 100 series are in no particular order, what should come right after my #75 (Del Mar Racetrack) has got to be Del Mar Fairgrounds (Click here to view all 76 paintings in San Diego 100).  The Racetrack is one of the facilities at the Fairgrounds.  In this painting, the grandstand can be seen in the upper right corner.

Throughout the year, there always seems to be something going on here, from trade shows to horse racing to private social events, but many San Diego residents almost instantly equate this place with the San Diego County Fair.  It is the fifth or sixth largest fair in the nation, and sure enough, the huge fairgrounds are packed every day during the fair season.  To have this view, I rode a skylift.  For someone who is afraid of heights (that's me), it was a daring thing to do, but I did to get a good shot to use in a painting.

Taste & Art Stroll in Del Mar has been my autumn tradition in the last several years (October 3, 2009, 10am - 5pm; free admission but tickets are required for tastes).  It's a one-day big party of fine art and fine cuisine that takes place on a main street in downtown Del Mar (20 miles north of San Diego) - just a few minutes from the Fairgrounds.  I will set up my booth as one of the exhibitors, so come and see many of my paintings in person.  I look forward to meeting you there!
