 Del Mar Racetrack (SD100-75)
Bing Crosby opened the gate at Del Mar in 1937. Jimmy Durante, Ava Gardner, Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz and many others would come down to the Del Mar Racetrack in its early days when it was a popular playground for Hollywood celebrities. Today it is still a huge social event when the summer racing season starts every July (Read more here on its colorful history). In this painting is a paddock area at Del Mar behind the grandstands. I can't imagine what must go on in a jockey's mind when he walks through here with his thoroughbred to the track! We know summer is over when they wrap up things with a big party in the paddock at the end of a racing season. San Diego 100 (#75) - Del Mar Racetrack Click here for a larger view of this painting.
