Although the summer weather in San Diego is relatively pleasant, we do have unbearably hot and muggy days occasionally. There was a long stretch of days like that late last month, so I am glad the air has finally started to cool down. When I first moved to Southern California, I missed four distinctive seasons that I had experienced in Japan. But soon I found out that I could go to an inland/mountain region in San Diego's North County to enjoy some of the best things of autumn, my favorite season.
A few years ago, I happened upon this family-run vineyard on a hillside near the town of Ramona. When I was driving on a country road, I caught something shiny and gold, so I pulled over and walked up the hill a little. The golden color was the top of the vines with turning leaves that were catching the last rays of sunshine. I was also treated to an incredible sight of an orange carpet of fallen leaves on the other side of the road. Simply a magical moment of autumn in San Diego.
