Old cars and a tow truck on a backstreet.  They look like they've been here forever.  There are small commercial buildings on both sides of the street, and they are old, too, waiting for the economy to turn around.  Up in the sky, a thick marine layer is just rolling in from the Pacific, hiding the sun behind it.  Well, it has been an awfully hot day.  Good thing it's finally cooling off...

Drab?  Not at all, to me.  The moment I saw this view, I felt the urge to stop my car to paint it.  But I was not prepared to paint; I was on my way to a nearby Asian market to pick up a few things quickly.  So I took a few photos instead to make a painting later.

Kearny Mesa, in the northeast corner of San Diego, is largely an industrial neighborhood of small businesses and car dealerships.  There are also many Asian stores and restaurants on main streets.
