What if it was sunny? What if this building looked more exciting? What if I could fill the street with light? What if I could change everything that I see just to have fun? These questions might have been in my head when I did this painting.
Whether en plein air or working from a photo, sometimes we find ourselves too preoccupied with painting the scene exactly how it is. There's nothing wrong with it; in fact that is good training to hone our technical skills. But if we start focusing on copying what's in front of us instead of painting what we feel about it, that's not so much fun.
We paint because we can have fun doing that kind of thing (I don't think anybody would paint to feel pains). I used this photo (below) I took of a café near the Louvre in Paris, and decided to have a little fun with it.
