Lemon yellow was so striking. That's one of the reasons I painted this scene. At the end of a hot, sunny day, the yellow wall of this busy cafe seems to radiate the warmth of sunshine (and plenty of it) it has soaked up.
But the coolness of night is about to take over. As I see shadows on the yellow wall getting longer and longer, I am reminded that everything will eventually come to an end -- even a long, lazy summer day in southern Italy that never seems to end.
