This reservoir, located in the north of San Diego, is a very popular recreational spot for local residents who love the outdoors. They come here for boating, fishing and birdwatching. Many also hike, walk, jog and bike on a 5-mile trail around the lake.
I'm always amazed, just a few minutes from a busy freeway and suburban development, the lake is so quiet and peaceful. The scene depicted in this painting is an area near the trail head. It was a sunny, lazy Sunday afternoon, and some families were having a picnic under tall Eucalyptus trees. Some were going to rent a boat while others were about to set out for biking. I focused on the tranquil atmosphere and relaxing mood. The result is a very soft painting.
