Gion, Kyoto, Japan I
Gion is a geisha district that is a short stroll from Yasaka Shrine (a.k.a. Gion Shrine). In this historic neighborhood of several blocks, traditional wooden townhouses line the narrow streets. Many are high-end Japanese restaurants or exclusive tea houses where geishas entertain their guests. It was rather quiet when I was there, but this area is almost always crowded with tourists from all over the world, hoping to catch a sight of a geisha in her beautiful kimono and elaborate make-up. But they are as elusive as the blue rose... Gion, Kyoto, Japan I Media: Original watercolor on paper Image Size: 8.25 x 11.5 in. Purchase: Sold
