Milano, Italy IX, Italian Landscape Painting

Milano, Italy IX
Milano, Italy IX

As I have shown on my daily blog in the past week or so, Milan is not just another characterless big city.  The image as a business center may be strong but it has many faces that make it very unique and friendly.

Although many streets in the city center may look like the one depicted in this painting, to those who know, this is clearly Milan.  To me, for example, cables criss-crossing the air are an instant reminder of the city.  They suggest a slice of urban life of the Milanese who love their yellow-bodied, old-fashioned streetcars (more on trams).

I enjoy visiting Milan because here we see a different side of Italy that may not be represented in other parts of the country.  I even think that we don't really know Italy unless we get to know Milan better.

Very interesting series about Milan, which unfortunately I have not had the chance to visit. Your affection for this city comes through clearly in your paintings. The architecture and atmosphere of Milan, as seen through your work, reminds me a little of Vienna.
