As soon as we enter Olivenhain in the north part of San Diego County, we can sense that this is a community of nature-loving people.  They are known here for their love of gardening and farming.  No wonder trees and flowers are everywhere.  Houses here are not built closely together as in many newer communities nearby, so it feels spacious, too.

The Hotel in this painting stands amongst tall Eucalyptus trees.  Morning sunlight filtered through leaves makes everything here look soft.  Colony Olivenhain was initially built in the 19th century by immigrants of German ancestry.  This building, first named the Germania Hotel, used to house early settlers (Source: Colony Olivenhain website).
