Cortona is another charming hilltop town in eastern Tuscany.

The road from a larger town of Arezzo took us through dozens of olive groves, vineyards and several small towns before we caught sight of Cortona.  It was quite a climb up the hill to get to the town square, Piazza Garibaldi (elevation appr. 1,600 ft).

Views from the town square were, just as we had expected, breathtaking.  Seen in the upper right corner is Lake Trasimeno, the largest lake in this part of Italy.  About 20km from Cortona, the lake actually situated in the Umbria region, not far from Perugia.
