View from Piazza Michelangelo (Florence, Italy) II
For trees in the typical Tuscan landscape, we can easily think of cypress, olive and grape vines. They are indispensable elements to paint in a believable painting of Tuscany.
While marveling at a majestic view of rooftops of city of Florence from Piazzale Michelangelo, I spotted a few prominent-looking palm trees on a hillside. Palm trees? At first, they looked out of place because, in my mind, they were the image of tropics.
But soon I was reminded that most of Italy belonged to a Mediterranean climate zone and there should be no surprise palms growing in Florence, too. I should have known better as someone who lives in a similar climate (San Diego, California) and see lots of palm trees every day.
