I love walking around Florence. Many streets in the city center are narrow and sidewalks are even narrower or almost nonexistent. Traffic may be constant with cars, buses and vespas. Bicycles could appear out of nowhere and give me a heart attack if I am not careful (I am often busy trying to find perfect spots for my photos).
But there's something uniquely attractive about streets of Florence and I love it. Feeling its rich history, culture and art gives me goose bumps. When I miss walking in Florence, I turn to hundreds of photos I took there and paint from them so I can feel as if I'm there.
Not too long ago, I discovered Florence street view was available on
Google Maps. A virtual tour lets you walk with locals and tourists as you pass by Ponte Vecchio, a tobacco shop, restaurants, etc., etc. Although I don't use these images for my paintings, it is fun and does bring back memories.
