Umbria is an inland region in central Italy and is hilly and rugged in most parts.
While traveling through the region, it is fun to look for old towns and villages perched on top of hills. These hilltop villages are quite picturesque among lush green mountains and fields below. If you get to the top of these communities, the views from there are even more stunning.
However, I heard some of them have long become ruins and some others are having a hard time surviving as many residents have moved out. Fortunately, Perugia, being the capital of Umbria, is one of those that are thriving.
