To get an amazing panorama of this ancient town of Arles, one of the best places is from the top of the amphitheater, Les Arenes. This itself is an equally amazing monument built by the Romans. Inside this massive stone structure, the temperature is cool even in the sometimes brutal heat of summer.
The Rhone River, seen behind red rooftops, originates in the Swiss Alps and is divided here in Arles into two branch rivers, Grand Rhone and Petit Rhone. Was it my imagination that I smelled a hint of clean alpine air in the refreshing breeze coming from the river?
