Carlsbad (SD100-62)
Thousands of miles away from San Diego, there is a town famous for its therapeutic spas and hot springs. It is Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad in German; Carlsbad in English) in Czech Republic. It is said, back in the 1880s, the water in a well dug in a small town in the north of San Diego was found to have the very similar chemical properties of Karlovy Vary's Spring #9. Because of this connection, Carlsbad was chosen as a name of this small California town (Carlsbad city website). What a story with a unique twist! It doesn't get so hot in a coastal community like downtown Carlsbad even in the middle of summer - Because ocean breeze and plenty of sun keeps the climate very mild all year round. On a pleasantly sunny day, red awnings of this Italian eatery caught my eyes. I think anytime is a good time to enjoy being outdoors in a place like this. San Diego 100 (#62) - Carlsbad
