San Diego 100 (#61) - Cabrillo Freeway, California Landscape Painting

Cabrillo Freeway (SD100-61)
Cabrillo Freeway (SD100-61)

Just before State Route 163 (also known as Cabrillo Freeway) ends in downtown San Diego, it runs through an almost garden-like canyon.  So scenic it is hard to believe this stretch of the freeway is close to the urban area.

The best view of it all can be had from the Cabrillo Bridge.  The old bridge was constructed over the canyon in 1915 for the Panama-California Exposition, which was held in Balboa Park.

This painting depicts a southside view from the bridge towards downtown San Diego.  The road down below has only four lanes around here and a wide median with towering trees.  It doesn't look like a typical freeway in Southern California.
