I can't remember when this love affair began, but I've always loved lavender. So, when I had a chance to visit an acquaintance of mine who lives in the highlands of the Provence region, I scheduled my visit there at the height of a blooming season of this fragrant flower.
Sault, a village neat Mont Ventoux, is situated along the Lavender Road and is really France's lavender capital.
The summer days were extremely hot and dry. But that didn't stop me from venturing out. I was happy walking along fields of blue and gold (lavender and wheat), sharing the country road with a big tractor like this.
Occasionally, I rested in the shade of a tree to take a deep breath and listen to busy bees while attempting a quick watercolor sketch.
