This cafe is located in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés on the Left Bank in Paris.
The clientele was a largely youngish crowd. With the École des Beaux-Arts being just a stone's throw away, some of them were probably art students from the famed school. I also saw some intellectual types and a fashion model when I was there.
Near here there were other cafés, brasseries, galleries and boutiques but the narrow streets of this neighborhood were surprisingly quiet and cozy.
Even though this area was known for intellectual life in the past, the air was not pretentious at all. To me, it was more like a subtle yet refined sophistication that made this neighborhood a little different and attractive.
